Ben Sayers
Ben Sayers (1856–1924) was a Scottish professional, golf course architect, club manufacturer, and instructor from Leith. He finished second in the 1888 Open and third in 1889, never winning a major. Sayers designed or modified North Berwick's West Links, Castlerock, The Glen, Auchterarder, Dunbar, and Kilspindie. He made high-quality gutta-percha balls and taught royalty including Queen Alexandra, future King George V, and Princess Victoria. He served as head professional at The Golf Club of Monte Carlo from 1911. A statue of him was erected outside his former factory in North Berwick.
