Charles Kenneth Cotton
Charles Kenneth Cotton (1887–1974) was a British golf course architect whom Donald Steel described as "a pupil of Tom Simpson." A Cambridge graduate and scratch amateur, Cotton worked as a schoolmaster and club secretary before taking up architecture seriously after WWII, aged over 50. His notable courses include St Pierre, Ross-on-Wye, Olgiata in Rome, Brickendon Grange, Cradoc, and the Frilford Heath extension. Cotton co-founded Cotton, Pennink and Partners with Frank Pennink and Charles Lawrie; Donald Steel later joined. He gave Steel Tom Simpson's "Golf Architect's Bible"—a handwritten leather-bound compilation of architectural secrets.
