Des Smyth
Des Smyth (b. 1953) is an Irish professional golfer and golf course designer from Drogheda. He turned professional in 1974, won eight European Tour events between 1979 and 2001, achieved a world ranking of 48, and represented Europe in the Ryder Cup (1979, 1981). On the senior circuit he won twice on PGA Tour Champions and five times on the European Senior Tour. Smyth co-designed Seapoint Golf Links with Declan Branigan. The 21-year-old links has become a significant championship venue, hosting the Irish Amateur Close Championship. He reflected proudly on Seapoint's progression as a co-designer.
