Frank Pennink

Frank Pennink (1913–1983) was a British amateur golfer, journalist, and golf course architect. He expressed his design approach in "Golfer's Companion" (1962). A characteristic trademark was placing a tree in the middle of the fairway or target line from the tee—as at Tewkesbury Park—to create strategic choice. Pennink co-founded Cotton, Pennink and Partners (1954) with Ken Cotton and Charles Lawrie; Donald Steel later joined. He designed acclaimed courses across Europe and Asia, including Olgiata (Italy), Aroeira I and Palmares (Portugal), and Noordwijk (Holland). His work combined strategic interest with sensitivity to landscape.
