Harold Hilton

Harold Horsfall Hilton (1869–1942) was an English amateur who won The Open twice (1892, 1897), The Amateur four times (1900, 1901, 1911, 1913), and the U.S. Amateur in 1911—the first foreign-born winner. Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1978. Hilton also worked as a golf course architect, designing or co-designing Anglesey (1914), Ferndown Old (1914), Ormskirk (1899), Leigh (1925), and Wallasey. He collaborated with Harry Colt on Sunningdale's New Course. His deep understanding of championship golf informed his design work.
