Henry Cotton
Sir Henry Cotton (1907–1987) was a legendary British professional and golf course architect. He won The Open three times (1934, 1937, 1948), becoming the leading British golfer of his generation. Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1980 and knighted in 1988, Cotton authored 10 books and founded the Golf Foundation. After retiring from competition in the early 1950s, he became a successful architect. His most notable design was Le Méridien Penina on the Algarve. He served as Ryder Cup captain in 1947 and 1953 and was respected as one of Britain's most prolific golf instructors.
