Hugh Alison
Charles Hugh Alison (1883–1952) was a British golf course architect who worked with Harry Colt and John Morrison. In 1928 the three formed Colt, Alison & Morrison Ltd, designing over 300 courses globally. Alison was secretary of Stoke Poges in 1908, assisting Colt with designs. In the 1920s he was assigned to North America, designing more than twenty courses in nine years. His style featured eye-catching, large, deep bunkers. In 1930 he traveled to Japan and designed Tokyo, Hirono, and Kawana; large steep-faced bunkers there are still called "Alisons." A founding member of the International Society of Golf Architects (1929).
