Mike Clayton

Mike Clayton (b. 1957) is an Australian golf course architect and former professional. He won the Australian Amateur (1978) and nine worldwide titles including the 1984 Timex Open. Clayton founded Michael Clayton Golf Design in 1995 and focused on redesigning classic Australian courses: Portsea, Peninsula, Commonwealth, Lake Karrinyup, Royal Canberra, The Lakes. His only solo design from scratch was Ranfurlie (2002). He gained international recognition collaborating with Tom Doak on Barnbougle Dunes and St Andrews Beach. Clayton's firm evolved into OCCM when Geoff Ogilvy joined in 2010. He was replaced by Doak as consulting architect at Royal Adelaide in 2012 after controversy over his 17th hole redesign.
