Tom MacKenzie

Tom MacKenzie is a British golf course architect and co-founder of Mackenzie & Ebert. He studied landscape architecture and was inspired by Harry Colt and Alister MacKenzie. On fitting courses to the land, he says: "We have to make courses that are designed to sit on the land as we find it rather than reshaping it all." He favours minimal earth movement and fine detail around greens and bunkers, influenced by formative years at Royal Dornoch. His work includes restorations at Royal Troon, St George's, Carnoustie, and Trump Turnberry. He aims for greens and surrounds that "allow a far wider range of shots to be played around the greens than is the norm in modern golf."
