Tom Williamson

Tom Williamson (1880–1950) was an English professional golfer and prolific golf course architect who designed over 55 courses, primarily in the East Midlands. A founder member of the PGA and its Captain in 1928, he was the first to number golf clubs (1906) and experimented with scorecards bearing course plans (1930). Williamson had six top-10 finishes in The Open over a fifty-year competitive career and taught Enid Wilson to three English Ladies Championship titles. His designs reflected his experience as a player and teacher: practical, playable courses suited to club golfers. He was known for integrity and broad contributions to the sport.
