Accrington And District Golf Club

Accrington & District Golf Club was established in 1893 when six founder members identified a suitable location for a golf course at the Coppice. The original nine-hole course, designed by Mr. James Birtwistle, saw its first round played at the end of August 1893.

Following a relocation in 1908 due to a notice to quit the Coppice site, a new nine-hole course was built at the current location, which was then extensive to an 18-hole course that formally opened in 1928. James Braid was consulted to refine the layout, which contributed to the course's challenging design, evidenced by Braid's attention to the varying quality of shots landed during play.

The clubhouse was constructed in 1914 with an extension in 1934, followed by the building of the current gents' locker room in 1966. A significant expansion in 1989 included the creation of the dining area and the Ladies locker room, showing the club's growth and commitment to improving facilities.

Technological advancements were incorporated with the installation of an automatic watering system in 1991, financed by the club members, and a gravel banding added to all greens in the winter of 1999/2000 improved green drainage, allowing for year-round play, weather permitting.

Green fees vary depending on the season and day of the week. Summer rates (Apr 1st - Oct 31st) are higher than winter rates (Nov 1st - Mar 31st).

Junior rates are 50% of the adult rate. County Card or James Braid Reciprocal rates are also available.
