About: Army Golf Club

Army Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Hampshire. The club was first formed in 1883.

The Army Golf Club was established in 1883 by officers serving in Aldershot, United Kingdom, where the Army had set up its principal base. The club was a response to the growing interest in golf, a sport which had deep roots in Scotland and was gaining followers worldwide, including among the Scottish regiments stationed in Aldershot.

The idea to create the golf course was publicized in 'The Surrey and Hants News' on October 13, 1883, inviting officers interested in the sport to communicate with Lieutenant Colonel Sartorious VC, DAQMG, for the planning of the golf club. Notably, the course became one of the early golf establishments in England, as the country had significantly fewer courses than Scotland at the time.
