Ashbourne Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Meath. The club was first formed in 1886.
The golf course now known as Ashbourne Golf Club was established in 1886 originally as Ashbourne and Dove Valley Golf Club, with its first incarnation as a 6-hole course. The layout was situated between the Isaak Walton and The Peveril of the Peak Hotels, in an area that bordered the Peak District.
Difficulty in accessing the original site led to a relocation to Boothby Farm, Ashbourne Green where a new course was established on 40 acres of permanent pasture with a sandy subsoil, designed by Mr W Lowe of Buxton. In 1909, the club moved once more, creating a 9-hole course at Clifton on land from Hollies Farm which was later expanded in 1928 when five additional holes were redesigned by James Braid and built by John Strutt at a cost of £795.
During World War II, the course underwent further changes when a portion of the land was requisitioned for the war effort, resulting in a reduction in size. In 1937, Ashbourne Golf Club Limited was formed and encountered several challenges including liquidation and land requisitions by Derbyshire County Council for the construction of a bypass.
The golf course's ownership was solidified with a freehold purchase in 1980, supported by members and the Sports Council, and subsequently a newly formed Limited company took over management. A considerable development occurred in 1996 when 158 acres including Lodge Farm were bought, upon which an 18-hole golf course was designed by David Hemstock and inaugurated in 1999 with modern USGA specification greens composed of a 70% sand base and a mix of fescue and bentgrass.
Summer green fees are in effect for 2025. The cheapest rates can be booked directly through www.brsgolf/ashbourne.com.
