Ashton And Lea Golf Club

Ashton Golf Club was established in 1908 in the area of Preston known as Ashton after local gentlemen, represented by Councillor R.V. Brocklehurst, rented land from the Port Authority of Preston with the intention of constructing a golf course and clubhouse. The golf course commenced as a 9-hole course in 1913 but expanded to 18 holes by 1914, despite being forced to reduce back to 9 holes during World War 1 for food production purposes.

Following a temporary requisition for municipal use in 1911, the members found new land at Lea, about 3.5 miles from Preston's center in 1912, leading to the inception of Ashton & Lea Golf Club. Post-World War 1, the course expanded again to 18 holes in 1922, but in 1927, a fire destroyed the wooden clubhouse, prompting the construction of a new brick clubhouse near Blackpool Road in 1928.

World War 2 led to another downsizing of the course to 9 holes, after which the club relinquished their clubhouse and land to the U.K. Atomic Energy Authority. Subsequently, Ashton & Lea Golf Club relocated, established a new wooden clubhouse across the brook from the original site, which partly remains within the structure of the present clubhouse built in 1993/1994.

In April 2019, Ashton & Lea Golf Club further enhanced its facilities by adding a new state-of-the-art driving range and short game facility. The club continues to occupy the same site following its evolution through the 20th and early 21st centuries.

Visitor green fees are £45.00 from 1st April 2025 to 30th September 2025 (Summer Rate). From 1st October 2025 onwards, the winter rate is £25.00.
