Ashton In Makerfield Golf Club

The Ashton-In-Makerfield Golf Club was established in the early 20th century by a small group of enthusiasts including Tom Mayall and Andrew Molyneux. The first meeting for the formation of the club took place on February 18, 1902, and a clubhouse was erected by April of that same year.

In January 1906, just four years after its establishment, the original clubhouse was destroyed by fire, but the members quickly rallied to construct a new, larger clubhouse within three months. The course faced a significant challenge in the late 1950s when opencast mining reduced it from nine holes to six, and the entire course was effectively commandeered for development in the early 1960s by the Lancashire County Council.

Upon facing the need to relocate, the club negotiated compensation for the land they owned, which was critical for the club's survival. In 1965, the club moved to Garswood Park, purchasing 60 acres of land from Lord Gerard to establish a new course.

The club's history demonstrates resilience and adaptability, as members overcame challenges including relocation and land development issues.

Green fees are £40 per round during the week and £50 at weekends. If accompanied by a member, the green fee is £20 weekdays and £25 weekends.
