Ashton Under Lyne Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Lancashire. The club was first formed in 1913.
Established in 1913, Ashton-under-Lyne Golf Club opened following an initiative by a group of local gentlemen led by John Kenworthy in 1912. They negotiated leases with local farmers, constructed a provisional clubhouse, and laid out the golf course.
Following significant interruption and the volunteering of club members during World War I, the club inaugurated its first two major trophies - The War Trophy and the Lady Aitken Cup - marking the end of the conflict. The interwar period was a time of consolidation for the club, marked by trophy donations from members and the eventual purchase of the clubhouse for security.
World War II put the club in survival mode, which included cattle grazing and sacrificing land for the war effort's "Dig for Victory" campaign. Post-war developments saw gradual land acquisition and club expansion, but major changes didn't occur until the late 1960s when a new committee initiated the extension of the course and planted trees, significantly altering its character.
In 1978, faced with the non-renewal of a land lease, the present clubhouse was built in 1983, which coincided with the loss and subsequent purchase of more land for the development of new holes. Since then, the clubhouse has undergone extensions, and the course has seen continuous improvement.
Ashton-under-Lyne Golf Club continues to serve its members by providing a well-maintained 18-hole parkland course. Notably, the club regularly hosts Lancashire Championship events and County matches and is considered a premier venue in the Tameside area.
The course offers a challenge for golfers of all skill levels with tree-lined fairways and manicured greens, while the clubhouse offers a congenial atmosphere alongside hospitable services such as discounts and dining options. The club is known for its welcoming and inclusive environment, catering to a diverse range of golfers and members.
Summer green fees (April 1st onwards) are £50 on weekdays and £60 on weekends. Winter green fees (from October 31st) are £35 on weekdays and £40 on weekends. Lancashire County Card holders receive discounted weekday rates of £25 in summer and £18 in winter.
Member guest rates are £25 in the summer and £18 in the winter, including weekends if available.
