About: Bentham Golf Club

Bentham Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Yorkshire. The club was first formed in 1922.

The Bentham Golf Course was established in 1922, initially featuring 5 holes at Park Foot before moving to Bentham Moor where it expanded and became Bentham Golf Club. In 1925, shares were offered to officially form Bentham Golf Club Limited, securing the majority of the land for the course with the first and ninth holes on rented land.

A professional green-keeper was hired early in the club’s history to oversee the course development along with member volunteers who built a clubhouse with various amenities. By 1941, the club had purchased the previously rented fields, which the government then used for agricultural purposes during World War II.

Following the war, the course was reconstituted and expanded with the help of member volunteers. In the 1960s, an old Army hut was added to the clubhouse to create a social space, and despite missing an opportunity to purchase adjacent land, improvements to the course continued through the construction of new greens and extensions to existing holes.

In response to the need for a more modern facility, a new clubhouse was established in 1975, contributing to increased membership and the enhancement of the golf course's greens. The club resisted becoming exclusively a nine-hole course through continued efforts, ultimately purchasing land in the 1990s to expand the course to 18 holes without external funding.

On 18th December 2009, the Marshall family acquired Bentham Golf Club, initiating a period of investment that added new features such as a driving range, glamping pods, luxury lodges as well as revitalising the clubhouse. The course, set against the Yorkshire Three Peaks and the Lake District fells, is an 18-hole parkland course welcoming both experienced players and novices, featuring a variety of golf and social events.

Since the Marshall family's takeover, Bentham Golf Course has seen investments aimed at improving the playing experience, which include quality fairways and greens, a well-stocked pro shop, and comprehensive stay and play facilities. The clubhouse offers food and drink seasonally, presenting a relaxing environment for guests post gameplay.

Green fees are applicable from April 1st to September 30th. Twilight rates (18 holes) are available after 3pm Tuesday to Sunday for £20. Dawn 18 hole tee times (before 8am) are £30 on Friday to Sunday.

All tee times must be booked in advance either by the online booking system or through the golf shop.
