About: Birstall Golf Club

Birstall Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Leicestershire & Rutland. The club was first formed in 1901.

The golf course at Birstall Golf Club in Leicester, first played upon in 1901, is characterized by its sprawling parkland layout. Stretching over 6222 yards, it features a variety of hazards that present a challenging experience for players of all skill levels.

The golf course expanded in like with the rapid development of Birstall village. The village's population in 1901 was just 611, a stark contrast to its 12,216 inhabitants by 2011.

The course's design was influenced by its geographical location to the west of the main Leicester to Loughborough road, an area predominantly occupied by farmsteads at the time. The opening of the Belgrave and Birstall Station on the Great Central Railway in 1899 played a significant role in the club's development, aiding in the village's swift growth. An unique feature of the club is the Great Central Railway steam engines pulling in and out of the station next to the course.

Over the years, the course has undergone numerous changes and improvements, now 6239 yards long with a par of 70.

Its layout demands alertness and strategic play.
