Bolton Golf Club

Bolton Golf Club was founded in 1891, originally positioned in Green Lane, Farnworth, next to the Bolton Cricket Club where golfers used the cricket pavilion as their temporary clubhouse. The club later relocated to Hollin Hey, Smithills, where a 9-hole course was constructed near the moors, although this engagement faced challenges due to the landowner's agricultural priorities.

In 1911, after years at Smithills and subsequent difficulties, Bolton Golf Club members agreed to move to Lostock Park to develop an 18-hole course. The original course at Lostock Park was designed by architect R. Hermon Crook in 1912 and saw further consultancy from H. S. Colt on the arrangement of holes.

The current clubhouse was erected in 1913 for £3,000, with a design that allowed for conversion into two homes in case the golf course did not succeed. Over time, the clubhouse has undergone several renovations and expansions.

The golf course at Lostock Park has hosted numerous significant events, including the Lancashire Championship on three occasions: 1980, 1996, and 2015, earning recognitions for its role in facilitating these tournaments.
