Bonnybridge Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Renfrewshire. The club was first formed in 1913.
The golf course now established on Roughmute farm began as a concept in September 1912 by Bonnybridge golf enthusiasts, and by 23rd January 1913, steps were taken to create a golf club during a public meeting at the village's Reading Room. Despite initially securing a 14-year lease on the Muirhead estate for a 9-hole course, the idea was later abandoned, and it was not until August 1924 that the current golf course location was secured.
A Lease agreement was signed on 9th December 1924 to establish the course on a portion of the Dunipace Estate, leased from coal operators Robert Addie & Sons Ltd for 25 years. In March 1925, a plan for the course was submitted by professional Gordon Lockhart, and the initial setup including the clubhouse construction by Messrs Spiers of Glasgow, was estimated at £1,149. The 9-hole course and other associated amenities were decided upon by various sub-committees structured within the forming club.
An inaugural general committee meeting took place on 11th December 1924, followed by the appointment of Dr. J. Young as the first Captain on 23rd January 1925, and bylaws were established, including adopting St. Andrews rules of play. The members agreed to a scheme which saw the golf course share its facilities with cricket and hockey clubs.
The official opening of the golf course took place on 23rd May 1925, with a successful exhibition game between two professional golfers from Glasgow, in spite of unfavorable weather. Photos were captured by Collier Brown (Falkirk), and total membership at the time of opening included 114 gentlemen, 65 ladies, and 13 juveniles.
