Bootle Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Lancashire.
The Bootle Golf Course was officially inaugurated by the Mayor of Bootle on May 19, 1934, after an eight-month delay caused by a fire. The inaugural hole followed the current course's 10th hole, and, as many golfers would in the future, the Mayor started with a bogey. The establishment, which boasted a pavilion-style clubhouse, common room, locker rooms for both genders, and "excellent catering facilities," cost a total of £32,000. Notably, the course was developed on previously used land, which housed the former Aintree ammunitions works.
At the time of opening, a round of golf was priced at the equivalent of 5p, with an annual contract costing £2.05p. The layout was the brainchild of professional Fred Stephens, renowned for his design contributions to the Kirkby and Bowring courses. The opening ceremony touched upon the creation of a golf 'club' and expressed anticipation for a 'nineteenth hole'. Additionally, a silver cup for open competition was offered to the Bootle Corporation by a Liverpool-based firm, J.B.G. Peters.
Bootle Golf Course welcomes golfers of all levels and is maintained by Sefton Council, the course has a community of skilled golfers, with around 20% of its 140 members sporting impressive single-figure handicaps.
