Bothwell Castle Golf Club

The Bothwell Castle Golf Course was established by a local group in 1922 and officially opened on June 16, 1923, by the Earl of Home. Spanning 110 acres, the 18-hole course is located adjacent to a 13th-century castle and near the village of Bothwell.

Due to development pressures, by 1962 the golf course lost 7 holes, which led to the creation of new ground and the re-design of the course, with the updated section opening in 1973. The club secured the future of the course by purchasing it in 1976 for £70,000.

In 1972, to mark its 50th anniversary, Bothwell Castle hosted an Exhibition Match featuring prominent golfers such as Peter Thomson and Bob Charles. A devastating fire in 2002 destroyed the clubhouse, prompting its relocation and the construction of new facilities central to the course.

The new clubhouse was inaugurated in October 2004, enhancing the course's amenities for golfers and guests. In 2014, the golf course was the venue for the Scottish Under 14’s Open Championship, a notable event which hosted participants from Europe, Argentina, and Malaysia.

That same year, Bothwell Castle Golf Course underwent significant alterations to the inward nine holes, introduced during an event with golf celebrities including Ian Woosnam and Pamela Pretswell. As the course celebrated its centenary in 2022, it held a special match attended by more than 300 members and guests, alongside the opening of a new Centenary Room and a state-of-the-art indoor practice facility.
