Bowring Park Golf Course

Bowring Park Golf Course was established on the grounds of the former Roby Hall Estate, which was purchased and re-designed by John Williamson in 1761. The estate was bought by Alderman Sir William Bowring and gifted to the city of Liverpool in 1907, leading to the creation of what is now England's oldest municipal golf course.

The course initially featured a 9-hole layout when it opened for play but was extended to a full 18-hole format in 1934. The design of the course was affected by the construction of the M62 in the 1970s, resulting in a reduction to a 9-hole course temporarily, until additional land was acquired in the 1980s to restore it to 18 holes.

During both World Wars, the Bowring Park Golf Course was closed and the land repurposed for food production and providing shelter for the public. After a period of closure, the course was reopened to the public in 1956.

In 1989, the Friends of Bowring Park were formed to protect and improve the park, and subsequently, Bowring Park Ladies Golf Club was established following the closure of St Michael’s Golf Club. Oneday Ltd has since been appointed as the Managing Agent, focusing on the park's redevelopment and community integration.

Bowring Park golf course offers rates during the golf season. Weekday 18-hole rates are £20 and weekend rates are £25.
