Braintree Golf Club

The golf course associated with Braintree Golf Club was founded on 10th November 1891, originally positioned at Chapel Farm on the outskirts of Braintree. After its inaugural meeting, play began soon after on lands that were kept functional through donations from committee members.

In 1921, the course was relocated to Chapel Hill, where it became known for its natural contours and as a notable 9-hole course with streams and ditches rather than artificial hazards. The course was established on a narrow rolling plateau adjacent to the railway line near Braintree station, less than a mile from the town centre.

Due to the development of a by-pass in 1966, the course had to move to land purchased at Stisted Park, which saw the beginning of construction for an 18-hole layout in 1971. The current course was completed and officially opened in 1973 and is located in the village of Stisted, near Braintree, nestled in parkland part of the Stisted Hall estate.

The golf course, now an 18-hole Par 70 set in rural Essex, offers views of the River Blackwater and utilizes the natural terrain and mature parkland of its setting. Historical records indicate that the land and manor of Stisted Hall have passed through various hands since 1046, with the current hall built in 1825 near the 17th green.

General visitor rates are £65 on weekdays and £80 on weekends, available after 11am and 1pm respectively, with 6-day advance booking.

Twilight Golf is available after 3pm every day, costing £60 for a 2-ball. County Card holders can book after 11am on weekdays for £50 and after 1pm on weekends for £55, bookings must be made with the Pro Shop.
