About: Brinkworth Golf Club

Brinkworth Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Wiltshire. The club was first formed in 1984.

The golf course at Brinkworth was established following discussions between Richard and Julian Sheppard of Longlands Farm, Brinkworth, and Jeffrey Hamersley of North Wilts Golf Club, seeking to convert farmland into a golf course. Work on what was planned as a 9-hole course began in the early 1980s, with significant construction including the removal of obscuring willows and river cleaning done by contractors.

In 1984, Brian Macallam opened the course, which initially experienced problems with plastic greens, leading to member dissatisfaction and subsequent replacement with higher quality seeded greens. Further developments included a relocated clubhouse, previously a cow byre, and attempts to complete a second set of 9 holes, which saw membership disagreements and management changes, notably involving Jeffrey Homersley and Laughlin McCauley.
