Brocton Hall Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Staffordshire. The club was first formed in 1891.
The golf course at Brocton Hall Golf Club has its roots in the Staffordshire Golf Club, established in the 1890s with the course originally laid out on Stafford Common by Mr. Morris from Hoylake. Play began in February 1891, but due to limitations like the inability to cut fairways in summer when cattle grazed, the club sought an alternative location.
In 1894, Dr. George Reid negotiated the rental of a corner of Cannock Chase from the Third Earl of Lichfield for a nominal fee, leading to the creation of a new course and the eventual folding of the Stafford Common Club. The Cannock Chase Club, later renamed Brocton Hall Golf Club, moved to its current location in 1922 after a fire destroyed its original clubhouse.
Harry Vardon, a six-time Open Champion, designed the course at Brocton Hall, deeming the grounds suitable for an 18-hole course with an estimated cost of £150 per hole. The course officially opened in 1923 with a match between Harry Vardon and Ted Ray, the 1912 Open Champion.
The course remained largely as Vardon designed it, although the greens were renewed in the 1980s, and water features were extended in 1993 with the restoration of the 18th Century Mill Pool beside the 17th fairway. New trees were planted, and old ones, particularly elms, were replaced to enhance the course.
Brocton Hall Golf Club celebrated its centenary in 1994, marking a century of golfing history that began on the original course at Milford and evolved into the current Brocton Hall location. This celebration included a special event of golf on the remnants of the original Milford course.
