Brynhill Golf Club

The golf course at Brynhill was established following a meeting at Barry YMCA on 9th February 1921, which led to the rental of land for £3.00 per year. Notably, the agreement included a condition that allowed the tenant farmer to graze his sheep on the course.

Professional golfer Ted Ray was commissioned to lay out the greens and tees on 7th March 1921, with founder members assisting in the course construction. The golf course officially opened on 28th May 1921, involving a ceremonial 'drive in' by Major William Cope M.P. and was notably filmed for the first time in Wales.

Initial facilities included makeshift accommodation for a clubhouse, while a permanent structure was being prepared from repurposed World War army huts acquired from Salisbury Plain. Notable developments in the course history include the opening of a new clubhouse in October 1984 by celebrated entertainer Bob Hope. In 1994, an additional 65 acres were acquired for course expansion, and the course redesign was completed by Dave Thomas Ltd in summer 1998 to create the challenge it now presents to golfers.
