Bude & North Cornwall Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Cornwall. The club was first formed in 1891.
Founded in 1891, Bude & North Cornwall Golf Club boasts a rich history intertwined with the evolution of seaside links golf in England. Initially catering to affluent Victorian holidaymakers, the course has transformed from its humble beginnings as a nine-hole layout to the championship-caliber 18-hole links it is today.
Tom Dunn, a prominent golf course architect of the late 19th century, shaped the initial nine holes. This classic links design embraced the natural contours of the terrain, weaving through dunes, valleys, and clifftop plateaus. Blind shots, undulating fairways, and ever-present sea breezes demanded strategic play and rewarded precision.
Throughout the following decades, the course underwent several modifications and expansions. The clubhouse opened in 1895, marking a significant milestone in the club's growth. Notably, the inclusion of a ladies' course in 1892 further cemented Bude's reputation as a family-friendly golfing destination. By 1921, the layout had stabilized into its current 18-hole configuration, encompassing boundaries similar to those existing today.
Despite these alterations, the essence of Dunn's original design remains at the heart of the course. Blind shots like the signature 11th hole, nicknamed "The Sahara," and the ever-present ocean views continue to challenge and captivate golfers of all skill levels. Recent renovations have subtly enhanced the course's strategic elements, with bunker re-siting and green contouring emphasizing accuracy and shot-shaping.
Today, Bude & North Cornwall Golf Club proudly stands as a premier links experience in England. Its rich history, challenging layout, and stunning seaside setting attract golfers from around the world. Whether battling the wind on a clifftop tee or sinking a putt with the vast ocean panorama as a backdrop, playing Bude remains an unforgettable golfing experience.
