Burford Golf Club

The Burford golf course was established with its first nine holes opened in May 1936 and was designed by J. H. Turner; the second nine holes were completed on September 30, 1937. However, during World War II, the fairways of the second nine were repurposed for cereal production and were not restored for golf until 1949.

The course features mature trees and younger native varieties, contributing to the ecology and visual aspect of the setting, especially notable in autumn. Spanning 6,363 yards, it offers 'easy walking' due to its relatively flat terrain and tree-lined fairways.

Key characteristics of the Burford course include a mix of left and right doglegs, as well as angled greens that are well protected, thus emphasizing strategic play over power. Maintenance of the rough and woodlands is focused on ensuring the speed of play, and the course is known for maintaining excellent playing conditions throughout the season.

Significant attention is given to the quality of the greens, which are large, mature and require careful consideration when putting due to their subtle contours. The 18th hole concludes near the clubhouse, offering a full view of the finishing rounds from the club's terrace.

Summer green fees apply from 1st April 2025 – 31st October 2025.

Visitor play is permitted at any time Monday-Friday. At weekends & Bank Holidays visitors can play from 2.00pm during BST and from 11.30am outside BST. All play is subject to availability.
