Burnley Golf Club

Burnley Golf Club, initially known as The Glen View Golf Club, was established in 1905. The course was first mapped out by George Lowe in the same year and went on to be redesigned by Alec (Sandy) Herd in 1908.

James Braid, another prominent figure in golf course design, further evolved the course in December 1929 by adding three new holes, over thirty bunkers, and several new tee beds and mounds. The layout, praised by Braid for its potential and natural beauty, remains largely unchanged since then.

Laid out on open moorland, Burnley Golf Club leverages the landscape to provide an 18-hole course rich in variety and challenge. It incorporates water courses and varied terrain to appeal to golfers of different standards.

Strategic hazards and the natural rolling countryside make Glen View a true test of golf, with holes like the 5th presenting significant challenges due to out-of-bounds areas and water features. The course also features a distinct 18th hole, posing a risk-reward finishing challenge visible from the clubhouse balcony.

Burnley Golf Club offers extensive practice facilities, including a golf academy with indoor swing room and covered bays. Amenities such as buggies and electric trollies are available for booking at the Professional’s Shop.
