Cairndhu Golf Club

Larne Town Golf Club was established in May 1928 on fifty acres of land at The Roddens in Larne by local business men, and a nine-hole course was designed and constructed by Major CA MacKenzie within the same year. The initial layout opened for play in 1928, featuring trophies presented by Sir William Brown and Mr David Baine, which are still awarded today.

In 1954, the club was forced to relocate due to industrial development, signing a 99-year lease on land next to Cairndhu Hospital that was originally owned by Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon, noted for its diverse plant life. The new course, designed by Mr John SF Morrison from Colt, Allison and Morrison, began construction in 1956, and upon completion, was opened in May 1958.

A further expansion to eighteen holes was deemed necessary as golf's popularity surged, prompting the acquisition of an additional 49 acres and the rehiring of John SF Morrison to design the new nine holes. The expanded course opened in 1963, and by 1964 the Golfing Union of Ireland measured it as 6,071 yards long, with a par of 70 and a Standard Scratch Score of 69.

Further enhancements included the extension of the clubhouse in 1971, the installation of an irrigation system in 1986, and the hosting of the Ulster Boys Championship in 1990. Ownership changes occurred over time, with the club purchasing the entire course from the Health Authorities and Borough Council, leading to additional modifications of the course and facilities.

Green fees are based on 18 holes, with 9-hole rates available upon request. Visitors can book tee times by contacting the Pro Shop at 028 2858 3324 or through the online booking system.

Golf Ireland rates are available, as are reduced rates for members' guests. Buggies are available for hire at £40, subject to availability, and must be booked in advance with the Pro Shop.
