Caldy Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Cheshire. The club was first formed in 1907.
The golf course at Caldy Manor Estate was established in June 1907 by David Benno Rappart, with the original nine holes designed by Jack Morris, the head professional at Royal Liverpool Golf Club. In 1908, the original Clubhouse was constructed, featuring various amenities including a locker room and a putting green.
By 1915, a map of the nine-hole course had been produced by Isaac Slade, amidst a period when basic greenkeeping was maintained by grazing sheep and a second-hand lawn mower. In 1921, Caldy Golf Club became a Members Club and, two years later, the club members agreed to purchase the land and Clubhouse from the estate company.
In 1930, under the guidance of James Braid, the five-time Open Champion, work began to extend the course to an 18-hole facility, opening the new holes for play in 1931 with a layout playing at 6515 yards. The outbreak of World War II slowed further development, but significant changes occurred in 1974 when the Clubhouse was moved and the golf course layout was altered, including the creation of a new 11th hole.
Substantial investments have been made in recent years to update the course, including the relaying of all 18 greens, improving drainage, and adjusting bunkers to meet modern golfing standards. These developments continue to evolve the course's playability and maintain its relevance in the golfing community.
