Callander Golf Club

The golf course at Callander was established following a meeting on September 27th, 1889, at the Public Hall of Callander by a group consisting of businessmen and visitors who decided to form a golf club. Originally laid out by Old Tom Morris of St Andrews, the course first opened on June 7th, 1890, at Muir of Gart, but due to its inconvenient location for visitors, a new site was sought.

In 1892, the current site of the golf course was selected, only 500 yards north-east of the railway station, with the initial nine holes again overseen by Old Tom Morris. By September 1913, the Town Council acquired the land and, guided by Willie Fernie from Troon, the course was expanded to 18 holes and opened on June 20th, 1914, with the original bogey (now par) set at 72, but since revised to 66.

The first professional appointment at the club was John Shannon from Troon in February 1924, succeeded over time by professionals including Durham Burt. Burt notably contributed to developing the skills of Gordon MacDonald and others who achieved international recognition in golf during the late 20th century.

Established with the strategic direction of professionals and businessmen in 1889, Callander Golf Course remains an 18-hole course that continues to be frequented by members and international visitors. The course has maintained its status as a challenging test of golf throughout its history.

Green fees are priced from £30.00 on weekdays and £40.00 on weekends. Twilight rates (after 4pm) are £20.00. Juniors under 18 pay half the above rates.
