Cambuslang Golf Club

The golf course at Cambuslang Golf Club was established on land acquired in Westburn green, which extends to over thirty acres, following a meeting on 10th March 1892. The course, which was laid out by Willie Campbell and officially opened on 9th April 1892, comprised nine holes featuring varying elevations, two streams, and a curling pond.

Following a notice to quit from the tenant of Westburn in March 1895, negotiations led to a ten-year lease from the Duke of Hamilton for Westburn Green, providing security of tenure that resulted in the opening of a new clubhouse in May 1896, designed by A.L.Miller, with costs totaling 264.47p. Willie Smith set a course record of 69 in June 1896 after being appointed as Professional.

The club faced a challenge when its lease was unable to be renewed in September 1921, but persistence by the committee led to the acquisition of the course from the Duke of Hamilton estates for 1,760 in June 1922. The member count in January 1923 included 173 ordinary members, 87 ladies, and nine juniors.

December 1934 saw a Special General Meeting of the club that agreed to the reconstruction of the Clubhouse, which was completed and opened on 1st June 1935, by Mrs J.M.Barr. Later, in March 1962, a Special General Meeting was held in response to a Compulsory Purchase Order from the Lanark County Council, ultimately affecting parts of the course and the clubhouse.

In April 1970, a contract was awarded to Findlay McGeechan Co. Ltd for the construction of the current clubhouse at a cost of 48,315, which was officially opened on 8th May 1971. Over the years, the course has seen improvements including extensive tree-planting and landscaping.

Cambuslang Golf Club offers varying rates depending on the day of the week. Weekday green fees are lower than weekend rates.
