Canons Brook Golf Club

Canons Brook Golf Club was established on a land with historical significance dating back to the Doomsday survey, encompassing the Abbey of Parndon-established Manor of Canons around 1170. The golf course, which is fed by Canons Brook formed by the join of Todd Brook and Musket Brook, became a reality when the Harlow Development Corporation purchased Canons Farm in 1954.

In 1957, notable figures including Henry Cotton, a three-time Open Champion and past Ryder Cup player, met to initiate the process of creating the golf course, with Cotton taking on the role of course designer. Work began in 1961 and the clubhouse was repurposed from the original farmhouse and outbuildings.

Canons Brook Golf Club officially opened on May 9th, 1963, with a noteworthy exhibition match played by Cotton; a full 18-hole course was completed and opened on May 22nd, 1964, featuring Cotton and Michael Bonnalack, who later became Secretary of the R&A. Notable insights from players like Bonnalack laud Cotton for creating what was considered his best course design.

Over the decades, the club has honored the founders through competitions named after them, such as The Beaton Bowl, Hyde-Harvey Cup, and Christopher and Catherine Moule trophy. In 1991, funding was secured to reconstruct the clubhouse, maintaining historical connections to the original 17th-century farm, while in 2013, the club marked its 50th anniversary.
