Carlisle Golf Club

Golf in Carlisle began in 1876, with the city's first 9-hole course established in 1880, contemporary to the early years of the Open Championship. The course at Carlisle has moved several times, starting from 'Swifts Race Course' to Dalston Green and back, reflecting its adaptation to various uses and historical periods.

In 1895, the club formed a partnership with Silloth to offer year-round golfing, alternating between Silloth in summer and Dalston, Carlisle, in winter. A permanent course at Durran Hill Park was established in 1908, leading to the creation of Carlisle City Golf Club.

The club found its forever home in 1936 when 132 acres in Aglionby were purchased for £3600. Major Charles McKenzie and Theodore Moon initially designed the course, with an official opening in 1940. The course underwent a remodel by McKenzie Ross in 1944, ensuring its continuity and quality.

Throughout the club's history, it has hosted prestigious competitions like the British Open Qualifiers and has been home to notable club professionals like Sydney Scott and John More, both of whom have set impressive records. Carlisle Golf Club, now set among mature trees in parkland, continues to challenge both amateur and professional golfers with its well-manicured fairways and magnificent greens.

Today, Carlisle Golf Club is conveniently located near the M6, continuing over 100 years of golfing history. In 2023, it is set to host significant events such as the 'Race to Woodhall Spa' Regional Final and the Northern Junior Masters Golf Tour.

Summer green fees are valid from 1st April to 31st October 2025. Winter green fees are valid from 1st November 2024 to 31st March 2025.
