Charnwood Forest Golf Club

The Charnwood Forest Golf Course was established in 1890 as part of the Beaumanor Estate in Old Woodhouse, near Loughborough, Leicestershire. The land for the course was authorized by Estate owner Mrs. Perry Herrick and was originally utilized by local gentry and professionals.

In 1946, following the breakup of the Beaumanor Estate, Charnwood Forest Golf Club purchased the 77-acre course for £2,570. The course layout, influenced by the James Braid style of design, has undergone multiple redesigns over the past century.

The Charnwood Forest Golf Course is characterized by its geographical setting around the Hangingstone Rocks, which are significant geological formations dating back 620 million years. Efforts to reveal the rocks by clearing trees and non-indigenous plants have been made with assistance from Natural England.

Declared a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), the course's notable features include indigenous flora and fauna, along with the naturally occurring hills, slopes, heather, gorse, rocks, and dry stone walls. The course today is open for play, and players are advised to use fairway mats as per the latest update on January 5, 2024.
