Chesterton Valley Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Shropshire. The club was first formed in 1993.
The golf course at Chesterton Valley was established after Michael Davis acquired the land in 1990 with the potential for multiple uses, including a golf course. After farming the land for eighteen months, the idea of creating a golf course that would be open on a pay and play basis took root, with easy access and favorable terrain characteristics in Shropshire's countryside.
Planning permission for the golf course was granted in 1992, and a 9-hole course layout was designed by Mike Davis and Len Vanes, who later also collaborated on designing the clubhouse. The development included the creation of large green complexes, the planting of hundreds of trees, and the introduction of drainage and water features.
In 1993, the 9-hole Chesterton Valley golf course opened, and subsequent land purchases enabled the growth of the complex. The acquisition of additional woodland made the expansion to an 18-hole course feasible, addressing local concerns, and bringing new ecological variety to the site.
The construction of a clubhouse and expansion to 18 holes continued, with the full course and the new clubhouse officially opening in 1999. The course was designed to offer a challenge with a mix of four par 5s, five par 3s, and nine par 4s, bringing the course to a Par 71.
Over the past decade, the golf course has seen continuous improvements, such as new landscaping, the development of new holes, the installation of an automated irrigation system, and the construction of underground storage for greenkeeping equipment. The course now features a mature, well-wooded layout.
The latest major development has been the construction of the 14th hole, featuring a dogleg fairway between stands of pine and larch. Today, Chesterton Valley golf course measures just over 6000 yards and offers excellent drainage, which means play can continue throughout the year without the need for temporary greens.
