About: Chevin Golf Club

Chevin Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Derbyshire. The club was first formed in 1894.

The Chevin Golf Course was established in 1894 as a 9-hole course and was later expanded to 18 holes, encompassing both parkland and moorland terrain. Its establishment is attributed to William Lowe, and the course was first opened on October 13th by professionals James Braid and Tom Williamson.

Significant historical contexts include its location near a site housing Paleolithic, Bronze and Iron Age artifacts, as well as Roman Legionnaires, with a local lock-up by the 13th hole known as The Gibbet. In 1908, the First Ladies Committee was formed, and by 1951, Joan Gee, a notable English golf champion, emerged from the club.

Chevin Golf Course celebrated its centenary in 1994, marked by the construction of a conservatory and the publication of a commemorative book. The course and clubhouse have undergone changes over the years, now offering a challenging 18-hole play with well-maintained greens.

In 2007, club member Melissa Reid turned professional, later achieving success in the Ladies European Tour and the Solheim Cup, and now plays on the LPGA Tour. The ladies’ centenary was celebrated in 2008, and in 2009 a new 17th hole was introduced to enhance the challenge of the course.

Spanning over 6000 yards, the 18-hole par 70 course presents a mixture of mature parkland and moorland, and it features impressive views from the Chevin Ridge. The course has hosted county championships and offers varying levels of challenge suitable for different golfers' abilities.

Recent investments include the acquisition of new Torro greens and fairway maintenance equipment, aimed at improving the course conditions. These efforts are part of continuous management to ensure high-quality fairways and greens for both visitors and members.

Green fees can be booked online. Juniors (18 and under) qualify for a 50% reduction on green fees.

Juniors under the age of 16 must be accompanied on the course by a playing adult.
