Chippenham Golf Club

Chippenham Golf Club's course was originally established in 1896 when the club was formed by local golf enthusiasts, with the course 1 ½ miles from the town of Chippenham and situated on elevated ground. The initial layout known as ‘the Links on Allington Gorse’ has since evolved, expanding from 7 to 9 holes, and ultimately to 18 holes by 1932, designed by golf architect Harry S Colt.

World War II saw the course reduced back to 9 holes, but post-war efforts brought the number back to 13 and then 18 holes by 1976. A significant development occurred in 2005 when a major investment expanded the course size, upgraded facilities, and added a new clubhouse, with these enhancements being completed by 2012.

Additional improvements included a covered driving range introduced in 2015, bunker reconstruction, and driving range extension, as well as the implementation of TopTracer technology. Commemorating its 125th anniversary, the club organized historical exhibitions in 2022 and a celebratory event in 2023 that revived playing the original 9 holes layout.
