Cobh Golf Club

The golf course at Ballywilliam, located at the east end side of Cobh, was established in 1986 following the refusal of redevelopment plans for a former course at Newtown. With funding from 150 local investors, the land was leased from a local farmer, and construction began according to the designs of golf course architect Eddie Hackett.

The course was constructed by Bob O'Keeffe, who also built Semple Stadium in Thurles, and officially opened on July 4, 1987, with a ceremony featuring professional golfer Christy O'Connor Sr as the honorary guest. It operated as a 9-hole course for 22 years before plans for expansion necessitated the search for a new location.

In 2006, Cobh Golf Club purchased a 125-acre site at Marino Point, overlooking Cork Harbour and Fota Island, after raising over €1 million. The 18-hole course at this location, completed in 2009, was officially opened by Irish Open Champion Shane Lowry in July 2010 and featured a provisional clubhouse completed by members in 2011.

The Marino Point course grew in membership and, by 2017, raised enough funds to refurbish the clubhouse to include modern facilities. This refurbishment coincided with the 30th anniversary of Cobh Golf Club and marked a period of success and maturity for the course.
