County Louth Golf Club

County Louth Golf Club, also known as Baltray, was designed by Tom Simpson and established in 1938. Located 30 miles north of Dublin near the border with Northern Ireland, the course is recognized for the variation in the layout's direction and its diversity in yardages.

The course features some prominent dunes as it moves away from the clubhouse towards the ocean; however, ocean views are limited to only a few holes on the back nine. Baltray is considered to have a strong back nine, with holes 11-16 noted for their engagement through the course's most notable topography.

The 14th hole at Baltray is highlighted as the signature hole, a 332-yard Par 4 considered to be visually appealing and strategically interesting as it plays away from the ocean with a green defended by fescue-covered dunes. With a variety of challenges presented throughout its 18 holes, County Louth is also cited as being more suitable for tournament play due to the emphasis on skill over luck.

Approach shots at Baltray, such as those at the 3rd hole—named "Punchbowl"—benefit from the terrain's natural contours, which can feed balls onto the green. The course is characterized by solid hole designs rather than quirks and is considered a consistent test of golf appropriate for regular play as well as competitive tournaments.
