Coventry Hearsall Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Warwickshire. The club was first formed in 1894.
Coventry Hearsall Golf Course was initially established as a 9-hole course on Hearsall Common with permission from the City Council in June 1894, and the first clubhouse was constructed on adjacent land owned by founder member George Gilbert in 1896.
The golf course moved to its current location on Beechwood Avenue following a general meeting on 13th December 1909, with substantial redevelopment including extra land being finalized by Easter Monday 1911 to become an 18-hole course.
During World War I, part of the course was repurposed for agricultural use, and it wasn't until after the war that the course resumed operation, coinciding with a surge in golf club memberships.
The clubhouse experienced two significant fires, the first in 1921 with a replacement opening in 1923, and the second on 10th December 1967, resulting in a rebuild that was completed in time for the AGM in 1968.
Notable historical events include the controversial decision to allow golf on Sundays starting from July 1910 and the visit by prominent golfer Walter Hagen and Open Champion Densmore Shute on 24th July 1933, who played an exhibition match at the course.
Post-World War II, it took over four years for the club to reclaim land used for agricultural purposes during the war and restore the course to playing order, leading into a smoother operation throughout the 1950s and beyond.
Further developments and enhancements were made to Coventry Hearsall Golf Course and its facilities from 1973 up to the present day, resulting in a course known for its tree-lined fairways and a professional from Hearsall, Ralph Moffitt, being selected for the 1961 Ryder Cup Team.
The course has a history marked with several clubhouse renovations and expansions, including after fires and on various anniversaries, with the most recent changes made between 1973 and the current date, significantly improving both the course and the clubhouse.
Visitor green fees are available Monday to Friday for £50. Weekend green fees are £60. A 20% discount is applied with a County Card for visitors on Saturday or Sunday after 1pm.
