Dooks Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Kerry. The club was first formed in 1889.
Dooks Golf Club was founded in 1889, establishing a nine-hole golf course by members of the Royal Horse Artillery in Glenbeigh, linking the club to military roots. In 1895, the Great Southern Hotel took over operations, hiring Golf Architect Anthony Brown, and by 1900 the course expanded to an 18-hole layout, making it the first in Kerry, though the additional holes were later abandoned due to costs.
The course, situated in Co. Kerry, offers views of the Atlantic Ocean from nearly every hole and is located within sight of the McGillycuddy Reeks, Ireland's highest mountain range. Notably, in 1965, members purchased the land from the Beresford McGregor Estate after an intensive "Save Dooks Campaign," and later added nine new holes which opened in 1970.
Renowned golf architect Martin Hawtree was commissioned in 2002 to redesign the course, resulting in an extensive overhaul completed in 2006, enhancing Dooks' reputation as a challenging links course. The Commonage, an 80-acre area of dune land adjacent to Dooks, was acquired by the club, hinting at future potential for course development.
As a club fully owned by its members, Dooks prides itself on its commitment to maintaining a hospitable and friendly atmosphere, a tradition stemming from its founding. Celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2014, the club has continued to build on its history with events and a win of The Irish Mixed Foursomes title in 2015.
