About: Duddingston Golf Club

Duddingston Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Lothians. The club was first formed in 1895.

The Duddingston Golf Course was established in 1895 by the Insurance & Banking Golf Club on the estate of the Duke of Abercorn, located on the east flank of Edinburgh beneath Arthur's Seat. Its designer, Willie Park Jr, who was a two-time Open Champion, aimed to create a “first class course,” which measures 6525 yards after extensions added in the 1960s and 1970s.

Originally part of a former deer estate with historic links to Scotland's past, the golf course now presents a parkland style course, which in Gaelic means ‘sunny side of the hill,’ and is known for its gently undulating terrain. Notable features of the course include a new tee at the 12th hole, with a layout that has been maintained to high standards and is recognized as one of the outstanding parkland courses in the Lothians.

Duddingston Golf Course was born from the collective desire of Edinburgh’s insurance and banking sectors for a dedicated course, leading to the acquisition of land leased from the Abercorn estates. Shortly after its opening, the course hosted an exhibition match with prominent golf figures Willie Auchterlonie, Ben Sayers, Freddie Tait, and Leslie Balfour Melville, solidifying its competitive heritage.

The course has a rich history of competitive golf and is associated with celebrated players such as Ronnie Shade, MBE, one of Great Britain & Ireland’s best amateur golfers. Over the years, Duddingston has produced numerous champions and the course has been played by many great figures in golf, including major and Open winners, as well as Ryder Cup players.

Green fees vary throughout the year, with peak season rates applying May to September. Twilight rates from 3pm onwards are available at a reduced price. Junior visitors receive a 50% discount on all listed rates.

Club rental and buggy/cart hire must be pre-booked online and are only available between 9:00 am and 2:30 pm.
