Dunblane New Golf Club

The golf course at Dunblane was originally a nine-hole course established in 1892 by Mr. Philp, who also owned the nearby Hydropathic Hotel, and was officially opened on 2nd April 1892 with an inaugural match featuring Old Tom Morris and Ben Sayers. After struggles with maintaining the original course, the Town Council took it over in 1918 following a decline in both the course condition and financial resources.

In 1922, local businessmen formed a committee, facilitated by Colonel Jack Stirling, to develop an 18-hole course, which Major Cecil Hutchison and James Braid laid out; Dunblane New Golf Club was consequently registered in 1923. The new course commenced play in April of the same year, with the official opening taking place on 7th June 1924 by Mrs. Stirling, accompanied by an exhibition match among notable professionals.

Over the years, the course has undergone changes, including the temporary loss of holes 9-12 during World War II, which were reinstated by 1948. A competition in 1966 gave names to the holes, and the subsequent erection of a new clubhouse in 1964 marked a significant improvement in the course and club amenities.

Continuous improvements and landscaping have ensured the longevity of the course's appeal. Today, the course not only retains its historical charm but also accommodates a growing number of members, with the count rising significantly from 405 in 1961 to 800 Adult Members and 100 Juniors in the present.
