Dunfermline Golf Club

The golf course associated with Dunfermline Golf Club was initially established to the east of the town in Halbeath in 1887. It subsequently relocated to Ferryhills after three years and remained there until 1929, when the club moved to a course designed by James Braid at Torrie.

In 1953, the golf course made its final move to its current location at Pitfirrane. The course is now closely tied to the historic Pitfirrane House, the ancestral home of the Halkett family since the 15th century, which serves as the clubhouse.

The Pitfirrane House underwent several modifications over the centuries, with significant construction in 1583, late nineteenth-century extensions, and then a recent expansion to provide modern facilities for members and visitors. Notably, the design of the pro-shop mirrors the architectural style of the main building.

The history of the golf course, along with its notable connection to historic figures and the transitions it has undergone, are documented in two books. "Pitfirrane House & Its Policies" by Ian G. Dewar O.B.E. and "Dunfermline Golf Club, 1887 - 1987" by Douglas M. Ferguson shed light on the club's rich heritage.
