Dunscar Golf Club

The Dunscar Golf Course is an 18-hole moorland course located just 3 miles from the center of Bolton. Established in 1909, the course spans 6033 yards and offers challenging play for golfers at all levels.

Key features of the course include the notable 3rd and 16th holes, the latter of which is known as the signature hole, a picturesque par three surrounded by heather and gorse. Dunscar Golf Course provides varied terrain with the backdrop of Winter Hill and Turton Heights, which adds to the challenges faced by players.

Historically, the initiative to form the Dunscar Golf Club emanated from a meeting held on 5th August 1908. The foundation was led by local vicar Reverend Atkinson, company secretary Mr. J. Higginson, and support from prominent figures including Colonel Slater and Colonel Hesketh.

After being surveyed by professional golfer Mr. G. Lowe, it was deemed suitable for an 18-hole layout but was initially established as a 9-hole course due to circumstances such as World War I delaying expansion. Eventually, the course achieved its full 18-hole design postwar, and since then, numerous upgrades have been made, including clubhouse developments and the introduction of the Centenary lounge in 2007.
