East Brighton Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Sussex. The club was first formed in 1893.
The golf course now known as East Brighton Golf Club was established on October 14th, 1893, initially bearing the name Ovingdean Golf Club. This name was altered to Kemptown Golf Club at their first Annual General Meeting, with subsequent attempts to rename it Brighton & Kemptown Golf Club being blocked due to potential confusion with the nearby Brighton & Hove Golf Club.
In 1905, construction began on the clubhouse, which was completed in November of the same year, and additional land was leased for course expansion. Renowned course designers William Park and James Braid were considered for the project, with Braid ultimately securing the contract to design the course over 130 acres, which officially opened on May 23rd, 1908.
The club purchased the course from the council in the last 30 years for £600k and instituted changes to its operational structure, which now includes a Management and Captains Committee. Throughout its history, the club has been guided by notable past presidents such as the Marquis of Abergavenny and the Duke of Norfolk, and celebrated its Centenary in 1993 despite an earlier break-in that resulted in the loss of nearly all its silverware.
With a clubhouse originating from 1905 and frequent updates throughout the years, the structure's heritage endures, complemented by historical references found on the club's honour boards. The course was crafted as per the designs by James Braid, and despite changes over time, it largely retains the character and challenges originally intended by its designer.
Standard green fee rates are £60 at the weekend and £50 midweek.
Special green fee rates are available online at off peak times via the visitor tee booking link.
