East Devon Golf Club

The golf course at East Devon Golf Club was established prior to the recordings of George Peaker, who, on 13 January 1978, assembled a group of long-standing members to document their recollections from their time as caddies in the 1920s. The ensuing "Caddy Boy Tapes" include episodes that discuss the early days at the Club and provide insights into East Devon's social history during the first half of the 20th century.

Key figures during the recording sessions included Arthur Robins, a former caddy boy who later served as Club Professional from 1945 to 1975, and other ex-caddies: Charlie Norris, Len West, Jack Wilson, Len Seager, George Meers, and Frank Harris. The club's past is detailed through stories that span topics such as the day-to-day life of a caddy, anecdotes about members, course challenges such as "the pit" on the 18th hole, and nuances of early greenkeeping that involved using horses.
